All claims are assessed on a case-by-case basis by an experienced independent medical assessor, all of whom are registered doctors with a license to practice. Medical assessors will consider all the available scientific evidence and medical records of claimants once received from healthcare providers and make a clinical assessment on whether it is more probable that the vaccine has caused disablement. This is applied consistently in accordance with the criteria of the Scheme, in line with Schedule 2 of the Social Security (General Benefit) Regulations 1982 and in accordance with Section 103 of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992.
