Government agrees action plan to limit public sector exit payments following the debate on Chris Chope’s Public Sector Exit Payments Limitation Bill on Friday 13th March
The Chief Secretary to the Treasury told the House of Commons in reply to Chris’ speech on his Bill that the Government would publish a response to the consultation on implementing the payment cap and that this would be before the end of April. He also said that he would work with other members of the Government to ensure that Parliamentary time is found to bring forward the regulations capping exit payments before the Summer Recess in July.
Chris said after the debate, ‘This is most encouraging. My Bill will be down for further debate on Friday 11th September by which time I hope the curb on extortionate exit payments will be in place. Every year of delay is costing £200 million which means that, if the Government had acted sooner, £1 billion of tax payers’ money could have been saved’.
